The Pakistan vs South Africa Test series kicked off yesterday, October 20, at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. With both teams staying in Islamabad and commuting to the stadium twice daily, authorities anticipate intermittent road closures and increased traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

To make it easier for the denizens of the capital city, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has released a detailed traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular flow during match days.

Moreover, over 300 traffic personnel have been deployed across key intersections and routes, to manage the increased traffic expected due to the teams’ movements between Islamabad and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The ITP has also issued alternative route suggestions to help the public avoid congestion. Staying informed and choosing the recommended routes can significantly ease your commute and help you steer clear of traffic delays.

  • Travelers from Margalla Road heading toward Khanna should use Faisal Avenue, passing through Blue Area, Club Road, and then Lehtrar Road.
  • Those traveling to Sectors G-9, G-10, G-11, and Tarnol are advised to take F-10 Road to reach Faisal Avenue.
  • Commuters coming from Rawalpindi Saddar should use Srinagar Highway via Peshawar Morr.
  • Drivers entering Islamabad via IJP Road should switch to Sabzi Mandi Road.

To assist drivers, traffic officers will be stationed along service roads to offer directions and manage flow. However, authorities warn that delays may still occur on the Expressway and Srinagar Highway, particularly during school and office rush hours.

Citizens are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and remain patient during peak periods. The ITP has pledged to keep disruptions to a minimum.

Real-time traffic updates will be shared via Islamabad Police’s FM Radio 92.4 or their official social media channels. For assistance, the public can also call Pukar-15 or the ITP helpline at 1915.
