Asif Ali Zardari elected 14th President of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as the 14th President of Pakistan for the next five years on Saturday.
Asif Ali Zardari obtained 411 votes while Mahmood Achakzai obtained 181 votes.
Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), were vying for the prestigious office.
The voting started at 10:00 am and continued till 4:00 pm simultaneously at the National Assembly, Senate and the four provincial assemblies. The voting was held through secret ballots.
The oath-taking ceremony of the president will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at 4:00 pm at the President’s house.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa will take oath to the newly elected President.
In this regard, the officials have issued invitations to the guests for the oath-taking ceremony.
