Proposal for ban on social media sites during Muharram rejected

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has rejected the Punjab government’s recommendations for a ban on social media websites during Muharram.

The Punjab government had sent recommendations to the Federal Interior Secretary to ban social media from 6th to 11th Muharram to control hate material, misinformation to avoid sectarian violence.

Punjab for banning social media for six days during Muharram

According to sources, the interior ministry rejecting the ban said that all social media sites Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, Whatsapp and YouTube will remain open.
