WEB DESK: Pakistan’s Olympic medal tally reached 11 with Arshad Nadeem winning a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

Pakistan’s Olympic success has predominantly been in field hockey. The country had previously secured all four of its gold medals in hockey, with notable victories at the 1960 Rome, 1968 Mexico City, and 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Arshad Nadeem’s gold medal is particularly significant as it is the first individual gold for Pakistan. The last Olympic medal for Pakistan before Arshad Nadeem was a bronze in hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
The country earned its silver medals in field hockey, as well. The men’s field hockey team won silver at the Melbourne Games in 1956, and in Mexico City Olympics in 1968. They also secured silver at Seoul Olympics in 1988.

Hussain Shah also brought home a bronze medal in boxing from the Seoul Olympics in 1988, while the field hockey team once again earned bronze in Barcelona in 1992.
