NAB seals Bahria Town properties, investors worried

NAB seals Bahria Town properties

ISLAMABAD: Investors have started to worry over the possible loss of their hard-earned money as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) starts sealing several residential and commercial properties of Bahria Town across the country.

In a major crackdown, NAB has sealed multiple residential and commercial properties across Karachi, Lahore, New Murree, Islamabad, and Takht Pari, according to a BBC report.

The anti-corruption watchdog has accused Malik Riaz and his associates of illegally acquiring land in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and New Murree.

NAB has filed multiple corruption references against Bahria Town, alleging fraud, deception, and unauthorised housing schemes.

Officials are also coordinating with other government agencies to repatriate fugitive suspects linked to the case. Malik Riaz has already been declared an absconder in the £190 million scandal.

PUBLIC ADVISORY

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has advised citizens to avoid investing in new Bahria Town projects, warning that ongoing legal actions could put their investments at risk.

In Rawalpindi’s Bahria Town Phase 8, the district administration has placed government seizure notices on several properties, including Plot No. 1351 and House No. 1440.

Officials claim these areas were originally part of Takht Pari’s forest land. The notices warn that any unauthorised activity will result in legal action.

The crackdown has raised concerns among property owners, who fear their investments could be affected by legal complications.

BAHRIA TOWN’S RESPONSE

Bahria Town spokesperson Colonel (Retd) Khalilur Rehman criticised NAB’s actions, stating that the administration has not been given clear reasons for the crackdown. He called the move one-sided and argued that while the case is still in court, NAB’s actions are making matters worse.

He also revealed that Bahria Town has not received a complete list of sealed properties and remains uncertain about further seizures. A court hearing scheduled for March 20 is expected to provide more clarity.
