No pay, pension hike for govt employees in budget: Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has hinted that there will be no increase in employees’ salaries and pensions in the upcoming budget.

He said that there is no proposal under consideration to raise salaries and pensions in this budget.

This revelation was made by the finance minister in a written response given during the National Assembly’s question-hour session on Monday.

In his written reply, the finance minister said that there is no proposal under consideration to increase the salaries of government employees in the upcoming fiscal year, nor is there any suggestion to review employees’ allowances and pay scales.

He further wrote that the issue of increasing the hiring and ceiling limits for employees is under consideration, but there is no proposal to increase the pensions of federal government employees.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance has stated that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb did not make such an announcement or statement in the National Assembly and that the news attributed to him and broadcasted is not based on facts.

In its clarification, the Ministry of Finance said that during the finance minister’s speech, no mention was made regarding the revision of government employees’ pay scales or their salaries.

The statement further said that the Ministry of Finance informed the esteemed house in writing, in response to a question raised by a distinguished member of the assembly, and clarified that, for now, no proposal to review pay scales or make significant increases in salaries and allowances of federal government employees is under consideration for the next fiscal year.
