WEB DESK: Apple has officially announced the date for its upcoming event. After a relatively quiet summer, the Cupertino-based tech giant is set to unveil a range of new products in less than two weeks, starting with the iPhone 16 series.
According to Apple’s official website, the fall event will take place on Monday, September 9, at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. The event is expected to showcase new iPhones and updates to other devices and apps.
These upcoming launches are critical for Apple as it aims to counter a global sales slowdown, particularly in China, and outline its strategy for artificial intelligence (AI).
Here are the products expected to launch at the September 9 event:
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
The flagship iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature significant upgrades over their predecessors. Key highlights include:
– Larger displays: 6.3 inches for the Pro model and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, up from last year’s 6.1 and 6.7 inches.
– A new hardware button for camera controls.
– Enhanced camera system with an improved Ultra Wide lens, better low-light performance, and a 5x optical zoom.
– A new A18 Pro chip, featuring an advanced Neural Engine designed for AI applications.
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will retain the same display sizes as the previous generation. However, they might also feature the A18 Pro chip, or possibly introduce a new A18 chip for the standard models.
Both models are expected to include the new hardware button for camera functions, improved camera capabilities, and additional colour options. The new iOS 18 will also highlight its AI features.
AirPods 4
Apple is set to release two variants of the AirPods 4: a standard and a premium model. Both will feature USB-C charging cases and a redesigned stem that combines elements from the AirPods Pro and AirPods 3.
The higher-end model is expected to offer noise cancellation and Find My support, while the lower-end variant will be a more budget-friendly option.
AirPods Max 2
The AirPods Max will receive its first update in fall 2024. The new AirPods Max 2 will transition to USB-C charging and is likely to include features currently exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2, such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Personalized Audio.
Apple Watch Series 10
The Apple Watch Series 10 will see its standard sizes increased. The smaller model will be comparable to the current larger size, while the larger version will match the Apple Watch Ultra’s display size. The Series 10 will feature a slimmer case and a more powerful chip, potentially setting the stage for future AI integration. New health sensors for detecting hypertension and sleep apnea are also possible.
Apple Watch Ultra 3
The Apple Watch Ultra has been a success since its launch in 2022, and the Ultra 3 is expected to continue this trend. It will likely include at least the new capabilities of the Series 10 models and a faster chip suited for AI. Additionally, there may be new health sensors and a space black titanium option.
M4 MacBook Pro
The exclusive run of the M4 chip in the iPad Pro is set to end with the release of new MacBook Pro models featuring the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. Although a major redesign is not anticipated, the new MacBooks will highlight the M4 chip’s capabilities.
iPad 11th Generation
Apple will also introduce a new base-model iPad. While details are sparse, expect a more powerful chip and possibly enhanced features for the Apple Pencil. However, a significant hardware redesign is unlikely.
M4 Mac Mini
The Mac Mini will receive a major redesign alongside the introduction of the M4 and M4 Pro chips. The updated model is expected to be significantly smaller, resembling the size of the Apple TV 4K.
M3 iMac
An M4 iMac is expected to launch before the end of 2024. Unlike the Mac Mini, the new iMac is not anticipated to have a redesign or notable new features, but there is hope for updated USB-C accessories.
Potential wild cards
Rumours suggest that Apple may also be working on new home devices, including an updated Apple TV 4K with an improved chip and a HomePod with an LCD display. These updates are expected to be minor and may not feature Apple Intelligence compatibility.
As always, Apple’s September event promises exciting developments, and we look forward to seeing how these new products will enhance their respective categories.
