Schneck said that the situation for Sikhs in both India and the United States was precarious, suggesting that their safety is under threat from actions and policies originating in India. He stated that the US State Department should consider listing India among the countries of concern for minorities due to the deteriorating conditions.
The US Commission Chairman also criticised the Indian constitution for classifying Sikhs as Hindus, which he described as a significant misrepresentation. He argued that the classification undermined the distinct religious identity of Sikhs and exacerbated their vulnerability.
Schneck also voiced concerns about the growing fear among Muslims and other minority groups in India. He warned that the environment for religious and ethnic minorities was becoming increasingly hostile, with severe implications for their freedom and security.
