LOS ANGELES: Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix premiered their eagerly-awaited sequel to Todd Phillips’ dark supervillain origin story Joker in Los Angeles, California on Monday (September 30). Co-actor Brendan Gleeson and director Philipps joined Gaga and Phoenix on the red carpet at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre.
Joker: Folie a Deux picks up where the original movie ended, with the crazed Arthur Fleck/Joker locked up in a high security prison awaiting trial for multiple murder.

In jail he is captivated by an asylum patient, Harleen Quinzel, played by Lady Gaga, who reciprocates his passion – their intense love story played out in hallucinatory song-and-dance routines.
In turn a courtroom drama, gritty prison tale and tender romance, the film is peppered with Phoenix and Gaga, who also served as music consultant, singing unique renditions of classics, such as Judy Garland’s “Get Happy” and the showbiz anthem “That’s Entertainment”, giving the film a very different feeling to its predecessor.
Joker: Folie a Deux begins its global cinematic rollout on October 2, in the US on October 4.
