HARIPUR: A wild leopard entered the residential area of Chaskalan, a hilly village in Khanpur, Haripur, and attacked two homes, killing several valuable goats belonging to poor farmers.
The leopard fled into the forest after locals raised an alarm.
Eyewitnesses say the leopard also tried to attack a man named Niaz Ahmed, but he escaped due to the villagers’ shouting. Fear has gripped the area after the incident.
Locals say that in a previous incident, a wild tiger attacked and injured a father and son, while dozens of livestock were killed.
Gandapur’s arrest warrants issued
The locals have protested against the Wildlife Department, saying that the department has taken no measures to control the growing threat, nor has any relief been provided to those affected.
They said they are living in constant fear.
According to locals, due to food shortages in the forests, wild animals such as leopards, tigers, and bears are moving towards nearby hilly villages, preying on cows, goats, chickens, and other livestock.
Villagers have demanded urgent action from authorities, warning that a lack of preventive measures could lead to human casualties.
