SNGPL intensifies crackdown on gas theft


SSGC seeks further gas price hike

WEB DESK: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its efforts to combat gas theft through a series of targeted raids across Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad.

The crackdown resulted in the disconnection of 347 unauthorised connections, accompanied by fines totaling Rs3.47 million.

According to a spokesperson for SNGPL, the regional team executed the disconnections based on various violations. In one instance, 13 connections were severed due to illegal gas usage, while 23 were disconnected for employing compressors inappropriately.

In the Rawalpindi and Islamabad regions, the team took decisive action by disconnecting 98 connections involved in illegal gas consumption, resulting in fines amounting to Rs0.30 million.

In Multan, the crackdown led to the disconnection of 25 connections for illegal gas usage and another 25 for compressor-related violations. The team imposed fines totaling Rs0.050 million in gas theft cases.

Peshawar and Karak witnessed the disconnection of 93 connections due to direct and illegal gas usage, accompanied by fines amounting to Rs3.05 million. In Mardan, four connections were disconnected for illegal gas usage and 12 for compressor-related violations.

Additionally, in Sahiwal, three connections were severed due to compressor use. Faisalabad saw the disconnection of three connections related to compressor use, while in Sheikhupura, 47 connections were disconnected for illegal gas usage, resulting in fines of Rs0.03 million. The Sargodha regional team also disconnected a connection due to illegal gas usage.

This decisive action by SNGPL underscores the commitment to curb gas theft and maintain the integrity of the gas distribution network.

The fines imposed serve as a deterrent, sending a clear message that such unauthorised activities will not be tolerated.
