Meeting takes stock of provision of electricity to ‘illegal housing societies’

LAHORE: Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa Commisioner chaired a meeting on Monday to look into the issue of the power theft and the provision of electricity to ‘illegal’ housing societies in the Lahore division.
Randhawa directed the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), the district administration and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to carry out a comprehensive audit of the electricity usage in illegal and unauthorised housing societies.
The meeting was told that electricity connections had illegally been provided to several unauthorised housing societies.
The Lahore commissioner was briefed on LESCO’s revamped policy regarding tackling the issue of electricity theft and illegal connections.
Randhawa directed the authorities concerned to compile a report on the no-objection certificates (NOCs) issued by various departments to the unauthorised housing societies in Lahore.

The commissioner affirmed that the crackdown on electricity theft and illegal connections would be accelerated with Lahore being a focal point of the operation.
The meeting was told that immediate legal action, including the filing of First Information Reports, was being taken against individuals involved in electricity theft and the defaulters as well.
The meeting was told that significant progress has been made in arresting major defaulters as part of the ongoing operation over non-payment of bills and electricity theft.
