ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, announced that individuals who are not tax filers will face limitations on purchasing property, vehicles, and opening bank accounts.
This step is part of the government’s efforts to broaden the tax base across the country.
Speaking in an interview with a private TV channel, as reported by APP, Aurangzeb emphasized that serious measures are being taken to expand the tax network. The wholesale sector, distributors, retailers, and real estate businesses will also be brought under the tax system to ensure compliance.
The minister added that the government plans to gradually reduce subsidies on essential commodities like wheat and sugarcane, using a phased approach.
Responding to a question, Aurangzeb stated that the government is working to implement uniform tax policies across all provinces. To achieve this, all provinces will sign a new financial agreement aimed at strengthening the overall system.
According to Mettis Global, he also highlighted the increase in the number of tax filers, with an additional 500,000 people being added to the tax net this year.
Using data from NADRA and other sources, the government is identifying high-income earners, who will be required to pay their due taxes.
