These rates are intended to provide transparency and assist consumers in managing their budgets amidst fluctuating market conditions.

However, the issue of overcharging persists in some areas of Lahore, as certain shopkeepers do not adhere to the government-set rates for vegetables and fruits. This situation frustrates residents, who are often compelled to pay higher prices for essential food items.

Short-term inflation eases to 14.07 per cent

Short-term inflation, as measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), eased to 14.07 per cent year-on-year for the week ending in early September, according to official data released on Friday. This marks a 0.15 per cent decrease compared to the previous week.

The reduction in inflation is primarily attributed to lower prices for essential food items, such as wheat, and the impact of last year’s high inflation rates.

Additionally, a recent drop in petrol prices over the past three weeks has contributed to a decline in the cost of perishable goods.
