Overseas Pakistanis send over $3 billion in remittances this February

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan witnessed a surge in overseas workers’ remittances in February 2025, with inflows reaching $3.1 billion, a 3.8 per cent rise from $3 billion in January, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday.

This marked a significant annual growth of 38.6 per cent compared to the $2.25 billion remitted in the same period last year.

From July to February of FY25, the cumulative remittances totalled $24 billion, showing a robust 32.5 per cent increase from the $18.1 billion received during the corresponding period of FY24. These remittances continue to play a vital role in bolstering Pakistan’s external finances, driving economic activity, and supporting the livelihoods of households dependent on this income.

Saudi Arabia remained the top source of remittances in February 2025, with expatriates sending $744.4 million—up 2.21 per cent from the previous month and an impressive 37.88 per cent jump from the $539.9 million sent in February 2024.

Inflows from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also rose by 4.94 per cent on a monthly basis, reaching $652.2 million in February, compared to $621.5 million in January. Year-on-year, remittances from the UAE saw a substantial 69.49 per cent increase from $384.8 million in February 2024.

Meanwhile, remittances from the United Kingdom amounted to $501.8 million, reflecting a 13.12 per cent rise from January’s $443.6 million and a 45.03 per cent growth compared to the same month last year.

Pakistani workers in the United States sent $309.4 million in February 2025, representing a 3.41 per cent increase from January’s figure.
