Pakistan’s trade deficit shrinks by over 31 per cent as imports decline

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s trade deficit declined by of 31.1 per cent in October as exports surged and imports declined.

According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the trade deficit for the month was recorded at $1.5 billion. this figure is significantly lesser than what was recorded in the same period of last year (SPLY). The trade deficit stood at $2.17 billion SPLY.

On a monthly basis, the deficit also eased 17.7 per cent as compared to $1.82 billion recorded in September 2024.

For the first four months of the fiscal year 2025, the total trade deficit decreased by 5.6 per cent to $6.97 billion as compared to $7.39 billion in the same period of FY24.

Exports in October 2024 rose by 10.6 per cent, reaching $2.98 billion, up from $2.69 billion in October 2023.

Compared to September 2024, exports saw a 4.9 per cent increase, rising from $2.84 billion.

Meanwhile, import expenditures for October dropped by 8.0 per cent to $4.47 billion as compared to $4.86 billion in October 2023.

On a monthly basis, imports declined by 3.9 per cent, down from $4.66 billion in September 2024.
