World Bank approves $535 million aid for Pakistan to combat climate change

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank has approved $535 million in funding for Pakistan, earmarked for two critical projects aimed at mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change on Pakistan’s agricultural and livestock sectors.
World Bank approves $150 million loan to enhance education in Punjab
The first project will receive $400 million, focusing on enhancing the resilience of Pakistan’s agricultural sector. This initiative is designed to protect and improve agricultural production, ensuring that farmers can better withstand the increasing threats posed by climate change. The funds will be allocated to implementing modern agricultural practices, improving irrigation systems, and introducing climate-resilient crops.
The money will be spent on mitigating climate change damage in Pakistan, the World Bank announcement said, adding that through this funding, the production of the agricultural sector will be improved, and the sector will be safeguarded against the effects of climate change.
The second project, with an allocation of $135 million, is dedicated to improving the livestock sector in Sindh. This funding aims to enhance the resilience of livestock farmers and protect their livelihoods from the changing climate. The project will introduce measures to improve animal health, enhance breeding practices, and ensure better management of livestock resources.
World Bank approves $1 billion for Dasu Hydropower Project
The purpose of the money is to improve the livestock sector in Sindh, the World Bank’s statement noted. This funding will protect the livestock sector from the effects of climate change, ensuring sustainable growth and development.
