PML-N calls meeting for government formation in Punjab

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday scheduled a meeting on February 21 (tomorrow) for all its members recently elected to the Provincial Assembly of Punjab.

The meeting is expected to be chaired by PML-N’s nominee for Punjab chief minister, Maryam Nawaz.

Meanwhile, the meeting will focus on strategising the formation of the provincial government in the country’s biggest province.

The party members are expected to discuss government formation including the selection of speaker and deputy speaker for the provincial assembly.

All PML-N members recently elected to the provincial assembly in the general elections held on February 8 have been directed to participate.

Earlier, representatives from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) held discussions with the coordination committee of the PML-N regarding the prevailing political circumstances and the potential formation of a coalition government at the federal level.

During the meeting, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar provided an update to the MQM-P delegation regarding ongoing negotiations with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and other political entities.

Sources indicate that the MQM-P pledged its complete backing to the PML-N in the process of government formation.
