PML-N, PPP exchange accusations of vote buying

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) accused each other of buying votes at the NA-127 constituency in Lahore on Saturday.

In a video shared on the social media platform X by PML-N’s deputy secretary general Attaullah Tarar, he accused the PPP of buying votes in NA-127. He alleged that people were caught swearing oaths to vote for Bilawal Bhutto. He also claimed substantial amounts of money was transferred from Sindh to Lahore.

He accused the PPP of attempting to influence the election outcome in favour of Bilawal Bhutto by employing a “commission agent for NA-127”. Tarar said that the PPP did not bother campaigning in the constituency and resorted to buying votes. 

Tarar claimed that two individuals were caught buying votes at a PPP camp office. He alleged that the men were caught distributing money to women and other voters.

The PML-N leader declared this a violation of the Election Act and said he will submit an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PPP counters allegations

In response, the PPP accused the PML-N of buying votes. The PPP alleged that a video circulating online depicts PML-N’s Attatullah Tarar buying and selling votes in NA-127.

The video reportedly shows individuals distributing money in Tarar’s election office, swearing voters to support the PML-N.

The PPP accused the PML-N of contesting elections solely based on financial resources and urged the ECP to take appropriate action.
