After years of inactivity, Parachinar airport made operational again

Parachinar Airport in Kurram district

Parachinar Airport in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been made operational again after remaining inactive for a long period, following extensive rehabilitation work carried out by state institutions.

The revival of the airport has been made possible through coordinated efforts of the Pakistan Army, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and the Pakistan Airports Authority. The facility had been non-operational for years before undergoing major upgrade and restoration work.

As part of the final phase of the project, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted successful operational trials on April 26, 2026, carrying out six landing and take-off exercises to test runway strength, construction quality, and overall operational readiness.

Officials said the runway and related infrastructure met required professional and safety standards after evaluation under different operational conditions during the trial phase.

With the completion of successful tests, Parachinar Airport has now entered its re-operational phase. The development is expected to improve regional air connectivity, strengthen emergency response capacity, and support economic activity in the area.
