ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Al Khan has said that Pakistan’s most popular party was being targeted.
Talking to the media outside the Supreme Court, where he submitted a petition challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s verdict that had invalidated the party’s intra-elections and stripped its iconic election symbol bat, he said that it is the duty of the state to fulfil its obligations during elections.
He said that criminals and most corrupt people were being provided relief but his party being singled out.
He said that it is the responsibility of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure free and fair elections in the country. Barrister Gohar said that only the PTI was unfairly treated during the entire process.
The PTI chairman said that the nomination papers of around 873 PTI candidates were rejected during the initial scrutiny by the returning officers (ROs).
All ROs gave identical verdict while rejecting nomination papers of the PTI candidates.

The PTI leader said that there have been constant attempts to steal PTI’s party symbol.
He pleaded that transparent elections should be allowed to be held in Pakistan.
Talking about the petition filed in the Supreme Court, he said that “We have informed the SC about the whole scenario through our petition.” He said that the PTI has already file three petitions in the Supreme Court on the same issue.
The PTI chairman said the Pakistani president also set the election date but it was never implemented.
He hoped that the Supreme Court will provide them relief on the basis of their petition and the supporting evidence.
He said that the caretaker government is acting like a political party. Democracy cannot function in such a manner.
The PTI chairman claimed that more than 100 million registered voters stood by his party. “Will they even accept the election results after such a scenario?” he questioned.
“We are hopeful the top judiciary will make a right decision in such circumstances,” he said demanding level playing field for the PTI in elections.
