ISLAMABAD: A special court in Islamabad on Monday rejected a bail plea of Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati in two cases related to controversial tweets.
Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand denied bail to Azam Swati after he failed to attend the court hearing.
The judge said that Swati should be arrested wherever he is found and brought before the court.
Due to Azam Swati’s continuous absence, the court has denied bail and ordered his arrest.

Azam Swati, a member of the PTI, was denied bail on Monday after failing to appear in court for the second time in two months.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had registered two cases against him for tweeting “false information” about state institutions, specifically the army chief, in October last year¹².
Swati had accused former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa of “legitimising corruption” and questioned his plan for the future of the country. He had also criticised other senior military officers for their role in politics.
Swati was arrested twice last year, but was released on bail after deleting his tweets and apologising. However, he did not attend the court hearings and was declared an absconder by the special judge today.
Swati’s lawyer said that he was unwell and could not travel from his hometown in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad.
