Dar, Egyptian counterpart stress diplomacy to ease regional tensions

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss efforts to reduce regional tensions and advance diplomacy between the United States and Iran, Reuters reported.

During the call, both leaders emphasised the importance of dialogue and sustained diplomatic engagement as the most effective means to de-escalate tensions in the region. They agreed that negotiations remain essential amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.

The two sides also exchanged views on how to move forward diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, focusing on mechanisms to strengthen dialogue and facilitate progress in ongoing backchannel communications.

Pakistan has recently taken on a mediatory role between the US and Iran, while Egypt reiterated the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to support peaceful resolution.

The conversation reflects a broader push to prioritise diplomacy as tensions persist despite a fragile ceasefire between the two sides.
