4.9 magnitude earthquake jolts Pakistan, tremors felt across Punjab and KP

ISLAMABAD: A 4.9 magnitude earthquake hit areas across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan on Saturday around 10:44 pm.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake’s epicentre is the Hindu Kush mountain region in Afghanistan. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 142 kilometres (km).
Reports indicate that earthquake jolted Swabi, Mardan, Buner, Nowshera, Sargodha, District Kurram, Malakund, Lower Dir, and Bajaur.
Similarly, Afghanistan also felt the seismic activity, with an intermediate magnitude 5.0 earthquake reported near Taloqan, Takhar province.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) recorded the earthquake at 9:44 pm local time on Saturday.
