End of infamy: Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton dies

PORT-CARTIER: Infamous Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton met his own demise after a violent attack in prison.
The Correctional Service Canada announced the serial killer’s death on Saturday. However, Pickton succumbed to injuries at the Port-Cartier Institution on May 19.

The 79–year-old serial killer was known for murdering multiple women and feeding their remains to his pigs,
At the time of his death, Robert Pickton had been serving a lifelong imprisonment sentence since 2007. Despite his notorious journey to prison, Canadians were left shocked at the news of his death.
Although convicted of murdering only six women, Pickton had confessed to killing over 49 women.
The serial killer was caught when the remains of 33 women were discovered at his pig farm in Port Coquitlam, Canada. Many of his victims belonged to indigenous communities, the First Nations of Canada.

Canada has a long history of ill-treatment and widespread disappearance of its indigenous communities, especially women. According to the University of Toronto Mississauga, more than 4,000 women and 600 men have been reported missing in the past seven decades.
The Correctional Service Canada extended condolences to the victims’ families and the affected communities.
