WEB DESK: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that it targeted US military facilities across the Gulf in response to recent US airstrikes on Iran.

The IRGC claimed in a statement that it launched missile and drone attacks on US military sites in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Jordan.

The Iranian force said the operation targeted key military infrastructure, including air defence systems, logistics hubs and command centres.

The IRGC further claimed that logistics facilities and refuelling platforms at Oman’s Port of Duqm, which it says support US aircraft carriers, come under attack.

It also claimed to have fired ballistic missiles at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, saying the strikes destroy a combat aircraft maintenance facility and a command and control centre.

The Iranian military said Patriot air defence systems, weapons depots and radar installations used by US forces in Kuwait and Bahrain are also targeted.

In Jordan, the IRGC said that a US command and control system and a hangar housing MQ-9 drones at Sultan Hassan Air Base are destroyed.

Meanwhile, foreign media reported explosions in parts of the Gulf region, including Qatar’s capital, Doha. Several Gulf countries activated air defence systems, saying they intercepted incoming missiles and drones. Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE also placed their security forces on high alert.

The latest developments come after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces conduct their third operation against Iran this week on July 11.

According to CENTCOM, ground and naval aircraft, drones and fighter jets targeted around 140 Iranian military sites, including missile and drone facilities, weapons depots and communication networks.

The US military said the strikes also hit Iranian naval capabilities, coastal facilities, missile systems, drone installations and weapons storage sites. CENTCOM said more than 300 Iranian targets have been hit so far.

Earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the Iranian people wanted to avenge the killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other predecessors.

In a statement published on his official Telegram account and X, Khamenei said avenging his father’s death as a national obligation.

The statement was issued during funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
