KP launches inquiry into alleged bogus teacher recruitment in 2012

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department has launched an inquiry into a suspected bogus recruitment scandal involving teachers appointed through the provincial public service commission in 2012, according to official documents available with HUM News English.

The KP education department has initiated proceedings against 436 teachers recruited during the final year of the Awami National Party (ANP) government.

The provincial government has formed a four-member committee to investigate the appointments, the documents showed.

According to the documents, irregularities were detected during the preparation of seniority lists, which led to the identification of what they described as questionable appointments.

The education department subsequently halted promotions of the affected teachers pending further review.

Sources said that the list provided by the KP Public Service Commission had allegedly been altered after its submission to the education department, raising further concerns over the integrity of the recruitment process.

According to officials, the issue escalated when names were removed from seniority lists and discrepancies were later traced back to candidates included in the original recommendation lists issued by the commission.

Some affected candidates said that they had been working for over a decade without receiving formal appointment letters, only to later discover that others had been placed in their positions.

“I have spent 14 years without an appointment letter, and now I have learned someone else was recruited in my place,” one candidate said, adding that his name still appeared in the official Public Service Commission list.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department and the Public Service Commission did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A former education minister from the ANP government also declined to comment on the matter.

Authorities said that the investigation was ongoing and further action would be taken based on the findings.
