Mariska Hargitay has reignited fan hopes of a long-awaited reunion between Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler following the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
With Christopher Meloni’s spin-off now over, speculation has surged over whether Stabler could return to Law & Order: SVU, and Hargitay’s latest comments are only adding fuel to that conversation.
Speaking at NBCUniversal’s Emmy Kick-Off event, the actor did not shut down the possibility.
“I hope so,” she said, addressing the question directly and acknowledging the lasting impact of the Benson-Stabler dynamic, one of the most iconic partnerships in the franchise.
‘They’re happiest together’
Hargitay also pointed to her close off-screen bond with Meloni, while noting that scheduling could be the main hurdle.
“Chris and I are very, very close,” she said, adding that he remains a busy and in-demand actor.
Still, she made it clear that she would welcome a reunion without hesitation.
“I love Chris, and I love acting with Chris, so I’m always open to working with him and getting Benson and Stabler together,” she said. “They’re happiest when they’re together.”
The end of Law & Order: Organized Crime after five seasons has left the door open for a return, especially as Law & Order: SVU continues its long run with a renewal through season 28.
While nothing has been confirmed, Hargitay’s comments have already sparked renewed excitement among fans who have long been waiting to see the duo share the screen again.
