LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday called upon the public, particularly the youth, to actively participate in voluntary blood donation, describing donors as true benefactors of society.
In her official message on International Blood Donor Day, the chief minister paid rich tribute to individuals dedicated to the cause.
She stated that donating blood voluntarily transcends helping a single patient; it is a profound service to humanity.
Highlighting the province’s technological integration into healthcare, the chief minister announced that citizens can now easily register as voluntary donors through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority website or by visiting their nearest Police Khidmat Markaz.
“Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to establish a formal Virtual Blood Bank,” Maryam Nawaz said, adding that citizens facing a medical emergency can instantly access the service by dialing the emergency helpline 15 and selecting option 4.
She explained that the Virtual Blood Bank serves as a real-time bridge, establishing direct contact between families in urgent need of blood and nearby registered donors to eliminate processing delays during critical hours.
Citing guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO), the chief minister reiterated that a sustainable, safe, and readily available blood supply remains a fundamental pillar of a robust healthcare delivery system.
