Public transport services across the twin cities have been partially restored after a week-long suspension that officials linked to heightened security arrangements during ongoing diplomatic engagements involving US-Iran talks in the region.
According to transport authorities, the Metro Bus Service has now resumed full operations from Saddar Station to Shaheed-e-Millat Station. However, the section between Parade Ground and Pak Secretariat will remain closed until further notice due to security considerations.
Officials from the Metro Bus administration confirmed that the suspension had been imposed on the instructions of the district administration as part of broader security protocols. The decision came amid increased vigilance in the capital region during high-level diplomatic activity, including discussions related to US-Iran negotiations, which prompted temporary restrictions on movement in sensitive areas.
In Rawalpindi, the Green Line bus service, suspended for seven days, has also been fully restored. Local administration officials stated that normal operations have resumed following a review of the security situation.
Transport disruptions over the past week had affected daily commuters across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, particularly office workers and students relying on the Metro Bus network. Authorities have not indicated a timeline for the reopening of the remaining closed section, stating that decisions will depend on evolving security assessments.
Officials said that the measures were precautionary and aimed at ensuring public safety during a sensitive period of regional diplomatic activity.
