MTV Awards 2024: Taylor Swift leads the nominations

NEW YORK: The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards unfolded in the New York, United State with Taylor Swift leading the nominations across different categories.
Rapper Meghan Thee Stallion served as the event’s host, with the event filled with electrifying performances and other unforgettable moments.

Leading the pack, the billionaire singer Taylor Swift garnered an impressive twelve nominations, including eight for her collaboration with rapper Post Malone on the hit song “Fortnight”.
If she nets the “Video of the Year” award, Swift would make history as the first artist to win the accolade three years in a row.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande closely followed with seven nominations for her album “Eternal Sunshine”. She shares the spotlight with the first-time nominee Sabrina Carpenter and the ever-popular Megan Thee Stallion.

Similarly, Chappell Roan also made an impact with nominations for both, “Best New Artist” and the “MTV Push Performance of the Year”.
The ceremony was set with a star-studded spectacle, featuring performances from renowned artists: Shawn Mendes, Lenny Kravitz, and even the controversial Katy Perry.
Katy Perry, despite disappointing album sales after dogged insistence to work with the notorious music producer Dr Luke, netted herself the prestigious “MTV Video Vanguard Award”. Dr Luke has been accused by many, including Kesha, of sexual misconduct and gender violence allegations.
The MTV Awards 2024 showcased a variety of categories, with nominees for “Video of the Year” including Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t be Friends (wait for your love)”, Billie Eilish’s “Lunch”, and Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red”.

In the “Artist of the Year” category, Taylor Swift was nominated alongside other heavyweights such as Bad Bunny, Eminem, and SZA. The “Song of the Year” category highlighted tracks such as Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”.
In the “Best New Artist” category, contended included Benson Boone, Chappell Roan and Teddy Swims, while the “MTV Push Performance of the Year” recognised emerging talents: Kalii and GloRilla.
The “Best Collaboration” category featured high-profile partnerships, including Drake with Se*yy Red and SZA, as well as Taylor Swift with Post Malone.
The MTV Awards 2024 also celebrated excellence in various technical aspects, including “Best Direction”, “Best Cinematography”, and “Best Editing”, with Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” nominated in several of these categories.

Meanwhile, the “Best Visual Effects” category showcased works from Eminem and Ariana Grande, while the “Best Art Direction” included nominations for Charlie XCX and LISA.
As the evening progressed, the black carpet created a dramatic atmosphere, with celebrities flaunting bold and innovative fashion choices. Karol G turned up in a fiery dress, while Shawn Mendes teased his upcoming performance with a shirtless video shared on his social media handles.
American footballer and Swift’s current beau, Travis Kelce, publicly voiced his support for her during the awards. The tight-ender expressed hope that she would take home multiple awards.
