Nations Championship: Argentina bolster squad as Kremer returns ahead of Wales clash

WEB DESK: Argentina have strengthened their squad with three additions ahead of Saturday’s Nations Championship match against Wales, following a 47-38 home defeat to Scotland in the opening round last weekend.

Experienced loose forward Marcos Kremer returns after missing the Scotland game due to the birth of his child, while lock Efrain Elias and centre Justo Piccardo are also back following the conclusion of the French Top 14 season.

Mateo Soler and Luciano Asevedo have been dropped from the squad for the fixture in San Juan.

Head coach Felipe Contepomi described the defeat to Scotland as disappointing, saying his side “lacked urgency and intensity during certain phases of the game.”

Looking ahead to Wales, he stressed the need to improve: “We need to address our maul defence, it wasn’t good enough.”

After facing Wales, Argentina will host England in Santiago del Estero on July 18 in their third home match of the Nations Championship.
