ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested on Tuesday a man in Islamabad for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) platforms to seek ways to kill his former girlfriend, the agency said.

According to the NCCIA, the suspect used AI platforms, including Claude AI, to find out how to kill the woman. A case has been registered following an investigation into the alleged misuse of AI and digital communication platforms, while further investigations are under way.

The agency did not disclose why the suspect allegedly wanted to kill his former girlfriend.

The NCCIA urged the public to use AI tools and digital platforms responsibly, warning against their use for threats, intimidation or criminal activities.

It said it remained committed to addressing emerging threats involving cyber technology, protecting citizens and ensuring accountability through investigations conducted in accordance with the law.

Previous cases involving AI

The latest arrest follows other cases in Pakistan involving alleged attempts to use AI to obtain information about committing violent crimes.

Last month, a 17-year-old boy was arrested in Bahawalpur for allegedly seeking information from AI about killing his father with a poisonous substance and attempting to carry out the act.

According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the suspect was allegedly inspired by the popular American crime drama series Breaking Bad and had set up a laboratory at home, where he attempted to prepare poison using information obtained from AI.

In September, another 17-year-old boy was detained in Karachi after asking AI platforms questions about methods of killing.

The teenager maintained that he was writing a fictional story. He was subsequently released after an investigation, according to the information provided by the agency.
