No smog holiday in Lahore tomorrow

LAHORE: The Lahore Commissioner’s Office has announced that there will be no smog-related holiday in the city tomorrow, October 11.
According to the the spokesperson of Lahore commissioner all educational institutions, markets, and offices in Lahore will open as usual tomorrow. However, the Wednesday holiday for smog control will be implemented from next week.
The spokesperson further said that the smog-related holiday will be enforced in Lahore once the Punjab government issues a notification regarding it.

Punjab Government
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab government, the provincial government’s caretaker cabinet will make final decisions on weekly holidays and other measures to control smog at its next meeting.
The spokesperson said that the cabinet will review a proposal for a one-day “work from home” for educational, government, and market institutions at its next meeting.
He further said that the cabinet is yet to make a final decision on the expert recommendations and suggestions presented at the cabinet committee meeting on smog control.
The spokesperson mentioned that the air quality index in Lahore has dropped to 55 due to rainfall, and there will be a plan devised to maintain this improvement in the air quality index.
The Punjab government is considering implementing measures similar to those used during the coronavirus pandemic to address the deteriorating smog situation in the provincial capital. According to details, authorities are poised to declare a complete shutdown on Wednesdays, during which all schools, markets, and factories will be required to close.
