The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced plans to introduce electric passenger cart services at major airports across the country in a bid to improve passenger convenience and modernise airport mobility systems.

According to the Director Commercial of PAA, the initiative will initially be launched at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan airports under a phased rollout. Tenders have already been invited for the provision of electric passenger mobility carts, marking the start of the procurement process.

The new service is designed to assist passengers in moving between airport parking areas and terminal buildings, including the concourse halls. Officials said the carts will also be available for returning passengers travelling from terminal exits back to parking zones, significantly easing movement across large airport facilities.

As part of the planned system, passengers will be able to book electric carts through a dedicated mobile application, allowing for a more streamlined and accessible service experience. Airport authorities say the digital booking feature is aimed at reducing waiting times and improving efficiency.

PAA officials stated that the initiative is expected to benefit all travelers, particularly elderly passengers, families with children, and individuals carrying heavy luggage. The introduction of electric carts is also part of broader efforts to modernize airport infrastructure and enhance passenger facilitation standards.

The authority said further details regarding service launch timelines and operational arrangements will be shared once the tendering process is completed.
