Pakistan in diplomatic push to bring back detained Iranian seafarers in Singaporean waters

Pakistan has launched diplomatic efforts to secure the welfare and repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian seafarers aboard vessels seized by US authorities near Singaporean waters.

In a statement, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that he spoke with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to seek Singapore’s support in facilitating the return of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian crew members currently affected by the situation.

The deputy prime minister also held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, saying Pakistan and Iran remain in close coordination over the matter. He added that Pakistan is prepared to assist in the safe transit of Iranian nationals through Pakistani territory if required.

Dar appreciated the cooperation extended by Singapore and said Pakistan’s Foreign Office and other relevant authorities are actively coordinating with US officials and international partners to ensure the safety, welfare, and early return of the affected nationals.
