Pakistan repels militant infiltration near Afghan border, strikes back at Taliban posts

ISLAMABAD: Security on Monday thwarted an attempted infiltration by militants in the South Waziristan region near the Afghan border and carried out retaliatory action after cross-border firing from Afghanistan targeted civilian areas.

Security sources said that Pakistani troops blocked an infiltration attempt in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan.

Following the failed attempt, Afghan Taliban forces allegedly fired on the Zulkhel area, injuring three civilians, including two women, who were shifted to a hospital in Wana.

Security sources said that the shelling was carried out in retaliation after the infiltration attempt was foiled.

According to the sources, Pakistani security forces responded by destroying several Afghan Taliban border posts.
