LAHORE: The E-Challan and Punjab Axle Load Enforcement App were officially launched in Lahore at a ceremony organised by the Punjab Transport Company.
Provincial Transport Minister Ibrahim Hassan Murad and Secretary Transport Ahmed Javed Qazi presided over the inauguration.
During his address at the ceremony, the provincial minister extended congratulations to the teams at PITB and the Transport Department.
He highlighted the relentless efforts of the entire team, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to serve the common man.
Underscoring the department’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens, he noted that violations against axle load enforcement were causing a loss of billions of rupees.
However, he expressed hope that the newly launched app would contribute to reducing this figure by 90 per cent.
The provincial transport minister outlined the department’s goal to eliminate paper challans, commending the effective teamwork that has initiated the transition to e-challans.
He explained that the vehicle inspection and challaning app aims to shift towards paperless challaning, eliminating issues related to fake and bogus challans.
The transport secretary, addressing the event, highlighted the transparency and real-time information benefits of e-challaning.
He pointed out that the shift to electronic challans would also lead to resource savings, including the printing of challan books.
In e-challaning, both driver and vehicle details will be included, providing immediate access to data on operations, locations, and violations.
This is in contrast to traditional challans, where the driver receives a challan message on their registered mobile number.
The CEO of PTC, Faiq Ahmed, explained that e-challaning would provide clear access to the location of inspectors on duty.
Additionally, entering the vehicle number or CNIC number in the app will autofill all relevant information.
Ahmed mentioned the integration of the vehicle inspection and challaning app with the excise, route permit, and fitness certificate apps, emphasising that digital driving would eliminate corruption and help evaluate the performance of transport inspectors.
Towards the end of the ceremony, the provincial minister distributed shields to representatives of various departments, and a commemorative shield was presented to him by the transport department.
