Police rescue two Christian families from mob attack in Sargodha

SARGODHA: Police in Sargodha rescued two families in Mujahid Colony from an enraged mob. Sargodha District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Ejaz Malhi confirmed the incident to Dawn, explaining that it was triggered by allegations of desecration.

DPO Malhi stated that the suspect is currently in custody and that further investigation is ongoing, although it remains unconfirmed whether the alleged desecration actually took place.

A Sargodha resident named Mohsin informed Dawn that two houses and a factory owned by the suspect were set on fire.

Police officials reported that the situation has been brought under control and said that no one will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) voiced concerns about the situation in Sargodha and called on the Punjab Police and district administration to promptly restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
