After months of anticipation, theories and fan speculation, Prime Video has finally delivered the update Fourth Wing readers had been waiting for.
Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling romantasy phenomenon is officially heading to television, with Prime Video confirming on Monday that Fourth Wing has been ordered to series after a lengthy development process.
Based on Yarros’ hit The Empyrean novels, the fantasy story follows Violet Sorrengail, a young woman forced into the dangerous world of Basgiath War College, where aspiring dragon riders face a brutal reality: graduate or die.
Since debuting in 2023, Fourth Wing has become one of fantasy publishing’s biggest success stories, building an intensely loyal fandom and dominating BookTok discussions.
‘Fourth Wing’ fans react with excitement and nerves
The long-awaited announcement quickly sparked celebration online, with many readers calling it the update they had been waiting for since Amazon first secured the adaptation rights.
At the same time, some fans admitted they were nervous about whether the television version could live up to expectations, particularly when it comes to casting, world-building and staying faithful to fan-favourite storylines.

Prime Video taps major names for adaptation
According to Variety, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy will direct the first episode and executive produce the series, while Locke & Key co-creator Meredith Averill has joined as showrunner. Yarros herself is also attached as an executive producer, something many fans welcomed as a reassuring sign.
The adaptation was first announced as being in development in 2023, though momentum slowed following creative changes behind the scenes.
Actor and producer Michael B. Jordan officially confirmed the series order during Amazon MGM Studios’ Upfront presentation in New York through his production company, Outlier Society. Jordan said the team took time to find the right creative partners before moving ahead, signalling an effort to meet expectations surrounding one of fantasy publishing’s most passionate fandoms.
Yarros also welcomed the update, saying she was grateful to be working with a team that shares a passion for both the books and the readership behind them.
What else Prime Video announced
While Fourth Wing dominated fan conversation, Prime Video also revealed several other major updates during its Upfront presentation.
The streamer renewed Reacher for a fifth season, confirmed that season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on November 11, and announced that Aaron Paul will join season three of Fallout. Prime Video also renewed comedy hit Jury Duty for a third season.
