Women’s SIM cards exploited for terrorism and extortion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

KP girls mobile numbers misused

WEB DESK: In a shocking revelation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it has been uncovered that women’s SIM cards are being exploited for heinous purposes like terrorist activities and extortion.

The head of the Anti-Terrorism Department, Imran Shahid, revealed that some Pakistani women are completely unaware that their SIM cards are being misused in their names for these illegal activities.

To combat this issue, law enforcement authorities have taken decisive action in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

During their investigation, they discovered a significant number of SIM cards registered under the names of females. Surprisingly, these cards were not only linked to terrorist activities but were also used to make extortion calls, sometimes in collaboration with Afghan SIM cards.

Moreover, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) highlighted another distressing aspect: certain women’s SIM cards were utilised for government welfare programmes, such as the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), without their knowledge or consent.

In response to these alarming findings, the Counterterrorism Department is working diligently alongside the PTA and FIA. According to Samaa, they have also taken proactive measures by engaging with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block the ID cards associated with these problematic SIM cards.

These concerted efforts aim to put an end to these nefarious activities and protect the unsuspecting women whose identities have been exploited in this manner.
