Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced that Karachi’s University Road will be reconstructed within 90 days, acknowledging public frustration over prolonged delays linked to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project.

During a recent visit to the project site, the chief minister apologised to citizens for the inconvenience caused, particularly to daily commuters affected by deteriorating road conditions along one of the city’s busiest arteries, DAWN News reported on Monday.

He assured that the rehabilitation of the road would be undertaken as a separate initiative, funded entirely by the provincial government.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the decision was made in response to widespread complaints, adding that the reconstruction would cover the stretch from Safoora Chowrangi to Numaish. The project will include road rebuilding as well as improvements to drainage infrastructure to ensure smoother traffic flow while work on the BRT corridor continues.

The chief minister also indicated that stalled work on the Red Line project is expected to resume within the next few days. He noted that the contract for a key section would be reissued following concerns over performance, and reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the project on schedule, even if work continues through public holidays.
