ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has issued new directives to strengthen vehicle safety on national highways and motorways. The minister instructed the Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police to ensure rigorous inspections of all vehicles before they enter the motorway network.
In a statement, the minister noted that vehicle fitness checks must be made more stringent, with special attention to the condition of tires. “All vehicles with worn, weak, or expired tires must not be allowed on the motorway,” he said. “Thorough inspections are essential to protect the lives and property of passengers.”
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed that while commercial vehicles must undergo strict scrutiny, private vehicles should also be subject to comprehensive safety checks. He directed the Motorway Police to enforce the prescribed safety regulations consistently across all routes and ensure compliance with the updated standards.
The minister also spoke on the importance of preventive measures to enhance road safety and minimise risks for motorists. Authorities have confirmed that these new measures include routine fitness inspections, stricter monitoring of tire conditions, and enforcement of other vehicle safety norms to ensure a safer driving environment for everyone using the motorways.
