Conjuctivitis update: Lahore schools ban students with pink eye from entering premises

LAHORE: Government and private schools in Lahore have implemented a ban on students suffering from conjunctivitis, commonly known as Pink Eye, from entering school premises. To ensure the safety of all students, educational institutions have been directed to display notices outlining precautionary measures. Furthermore, school principals have been tasked with deploying teachers at the school gates to conduct screenings of students for signs of infection.

In cases where a child is found to be affected by conjunctivitis, the school is instructed to promptly notify the parents. If the parents are unable to pick up their child immediately, arrangements will be made to isolate the affected student in a separate classroom until the end of the school day.

Medical experts say that the most effective way to prevent Pink Eye is through careful hygiene practices. According to the experts, encouraging students to refrain from touching each other or objects can significantly reduce the risk of infection.

Schools in Lahore reopened on Monday after a four-day hiatus due to the outbreak of pink eye in the province.

The Primary and Secondary Healthcare department has advised that conjunctivitis typically resolves on its own within 8 to 10 days.

To reduce the risk of infection and aid in recovery, it is strongly recommended to maintain proper eye hygiene, including regular washing with clean water, protection from intense sunlight, and shielding from dust and dirt.
