Two tourists killed, 15 injured in Chilas road accident

GILGIT: At least two tourists were killed and 15 others injured when two passenger vehicles — a high-roof van and a Vigo — collided head-on on Babusar-Naran Road in the Thak area of Chilas on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, a Vigo traveling on Babusar Road towards the Karakoram Highway collided with a high-roof van heading towards Babusar within the jurisdiction of Jal Police Station. The collision resulted in the death of two individuals, including a child, and injured 15 others. A total of 17 passengers were aboard the vehicles.

After receiving information about the accident, Rescue 1122, along with local police and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, rushed to the scene and moved all injured passengers and the deceased to the RHQ Hospital. Local residents also helped in the rescue efforts, using personal vehicles to transport the injured and deceased to the hospital.

The Babusar-Naran Highway is one of the busiest roads in Gilgit-Baltistan, favored by tourists for its scenic beauty, which offers eye-catching views. Due to its busyness, the road is prone to accidents.
