WhatsApp is testing an exciting new feature for users that allows them to add music to their status updates, a functionality already familiar to Instagram users.
This feature, which brought the app’s version to 25.1.10.73, is currently available to selected users of Android and iOS beta versions
The update includes access to a broad music catalogue powered by Meta and Universal Music Group, enabling to add popular tracks to photos and videos in their statuses.
For now, selected WhatsApp users can avail this feature by clicking on the music icon given in the status update section.
When music is paired with a photo, the result is a short 15-second video while the music length will automatically sync to the video’s duration.
The catalogue offers a variety of music files which WhatsApp users can go through to choose soundtrack of their choice for their statuses. However, the catalogue cannot be accessed offline.
This update follows a partnership between Meta and Universal Music Group, which expanded the music library available across Meta platforms.
The update would be readily available for all users in the coming weeks.
Earlier, the Meta-owned instant messaging app introduced a new feature to make WhatsApp chat list management simpler and easier. With this update, users tired of mass chats breathed a sigh of relief as the update not only revamped the WhatsApp interface, making it easier to manage chat lists, but also made the interface very user-friendly, making essential features easily accessible.
It’s important to note that WhatsApp updates always generate discussions on social media, with users giving mixed reactions. Some welcome the updates, while others find them frustrating. Some even say they cause anxiety, as in the case of an update that replaced the ‘typing…’ indicator with a new animated speech bubble.
Although subtle, this shift prompted negative responses from many users who viewed it as bothersome. One social media user wrote that the animation “purposely gives me anxiety,” while another described it as “annoying” and “unhelpful.”
Despite the backlash, WhatsApp made the update available to users.
