Danish Taimoor apologises for remarks on multiple marriages

Danish Taimoor

WEB DESK: Pakistani actor and host Danish Taimoor has publicly apologised after facing criticism for his comments on multiple marriages during a live Ramazan broadcast.

The controversy arose when Taimoor, co-hosting Mehfil-e-Ramzan with Rabia Anam, invited his wife, Ayeza Khan, as a guest. During their conversation, he spoke about his religious right to marry four times while sitting beside her.

“If God has permitted something, then it is allowed,” he said. “Just because I haven’t exercised that right doesn’t change the fact. I say this in front of her and to all of you: I am allowed to marry four times. However, out of love and respect for her, I choose to spend my life with her for now.”

After the show, Danish Taimoor was criticized for his remarks and was accused of promoting multiple marriages.

Senior Pakistani actress and model Farieha Altaf had severely assailed actor Danish Taimoor for his questionable comment about polygamy and declared his words completely disrespectful to his super-talented wife Ayeza Khan.

Another popular star Mishi Khan also expressed disappointment over his words and urged that he should talk about another good topic instead of a men’s four marriages on TV.

APOLOGY

In a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, Taimoor admitted that his choice of words may not have been appropriate.

“I know some people are upset with me. Many believe I disrespected my wife, but that was never my intention,” he clarified.

The actor, known for steering clear of controversies throughout his 18-year career, expressed regret if his words had hurt anyone. “I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart,” he said.

Explaining his use of the word filhal (for now), Taimoor stated, “I often say filhal because life is unpredictable, and I focus on the present. However, I realize I shouldn’t have used that word in that moment—it was a slip of the tongue.”

Reassuring fans, the actor added, “My goal has always been to entertain you, not upset you. I want everyone to be as happy as I am with my wife and children. Ayeza and I have no issues, and we are grateful for our happiness. Please keep us in your prayers.”
