WEB DESK: James Gunn shut down rumours of a possible Joker TV series on Friday, as fans hoped that they may see the character return in a spin-off similar to “The Penguin”.
“No there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time. Sorry,” wrote James Gunn on Threads.
Gunn, alongside Peter Safran, is a co-CEO of DC Studios. After a turbulent journey through the DC Extended Universe, which fell short of rival Marvel’s offerings both critically and commercially, Warner Bros. Entertainment sought out Gunn to spearhead their next attempt at success.
During this time, The Batman, a standalone movie separate from DC’s other, connected films, performed well at the box office, earning over $700 million. The film, directed by Matt Reaves, also received critical acclaim, earning an 85 per cent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

A post credit scene from “The Batman” revealed Barry Keoghan, who has previously been featured in films such as Marvel’s Eternals, Dunkirk, and 2023’s Saltburn, as the new Joker.
The Marvelvision podcast, where the rumours originated, claimed that a Joker TV series featuring Keoghan would bridge the upcoming “The Batman Part 2” and a possible “The Batman Part 3”. The claim possibly have stemmed from the belief that DC may be looking to do something similar to their current spin off series airing on HBO, “The Penguin”.
The series see’s Colin Farrel re-dawn the extensive makeup to once again play the notorious villain who was featured prominently in “The Batman.”
The series is a bridge between 2023’s “The Batman”, and the upcoming “Batman Part 2”, which likely fuelled the rumour that a possible Joker series could do the same.
