Turkish commander calls on army chief: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: The Commander of Turkish Land Forces General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir at the military’s headquarters (GHQ) on Monday, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced in a statement.

According to the ISPR, the two military leaders discussed issues of common interests and ways to deepen military ties between the two countries. “During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and measures to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation were discussed,” the statement read.

The leaders talked about the strong relations between their countries based on shared past and belief systems. “Both sides expressed satisfaction over deep-rooted relations between the two countries, based on historic, cultural and religious affinity,” the statement detailed.

General Munir called for strengthening militaristic ties between the two countries. “COAS emphasized the need to further strengthen existing military to military cooperation between the two Armed Forces”.

The Turkish commander commended Pakistan’s military role in establishing and maintaining peace in South Asia. “The visiting dignitary appreciated the role of Pakistan Army in ensuring peace and stability in the region”.

The announcement ended with “earlier on arrival at GHQ, Commander Turkish Land Forces, laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary”.
