625 kg of prohibited Chinese salt disposed of in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken action to confiscate and properly dispose of banned Chinese salt within the city’s boundaries.

According to a PFA spokesperson, acting on credible intelligence, a targeted operation was conducted against illicit salt trade at a warehouse located in Naswari Bazar, Ganj Mandi. As a result of this operation, a total of 625 kg of Chinese salt was apprehended and subsequently rendered unusable.

The confiscated salt was estimated to be valued at Rs. 1 million, as stated by the spokesperson. Additionally, the proprietor of the warehouse has been imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 in response to the violation.

The spokesperson emphasized that the primary focus of the authority remains the provision of wholesome and nutritious meals to the populace of Rawalpindi. Ensuring the well-being of the residents is of utmost importance.

It’s noteworthy that the use of Chinese salt had been prohibited by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) back in 2018 following a comprehensive assessment by a scientific panel, which concluded that its consumption posed health risks.
